%X This article focuses on studying the career civil service system in Spain from the Franco dictatorship to democracy. To begin with there is a definition of what is meant by career service and a description is provided regarding system implementation in developed countries with a long standing tradition in State employee management. The second part of the paper explains how this model has evolved in Spain¡¯s public administration, so as to understand its advantages and disadvantages, as well as how the current system has been reached at.
