%X Les ann¨¦es trente signifient, en ¨¦quateur, une crise sans pr¨¦c¨¦dent, ¨¦conomique et politique mais aussi culturelle et identitaire, o¨´ l¡äid¨¦al de nation ¨¦quatorienne m¨ºme semble menac¨¦. C¡äest toute une g¨¦n¨¦ration d¡äintellectuels et d¡äartistes qui se penche alors sur la question de l¡äidentit¨¦ nationale, l¡ä¨¦quatorianit¨¦, pour mener ¨¤ bien une qu¨ºte identitaire qui se veut aussi la d¨¦fense d¡äun projet de reconstruction de la nation. Le roman d¡ä¨¢ngel Felic¨ªsimo Rojas, El ¨¦xodo de Yangana, illustre cette d¨¦marche. Il valorise les ¨¦l¨¦ments d¡äune culture populaire pr¨¦sent¨¦e comme le support m¨ºme de l¡ä¨¦quatorianit¨¦. Mais les figures de cette culture populaire y font aussi l¡äobjet d¡äune r¨¦¨¦laboration complexe, qui permet ¨¤ la narration d¡äatteindre une port¨¦e universelle relevant d¡äune culture acad¨¦mique. Le motif de l¡äexode articule la double dimension populaire et savante. Ce faisant, il contribue ¨¤ cr¨¦er un mythe fondateur du nouvel ¨¦quateur ¨¤ construire. During the 1930ies, in the wake of unprecedented economic and political challenges, Ecuador undergoes a crisis of cultural identity, which calls the fundamentals of the country¡¯s national self-understanding into question. A young generation of intellectuals and artists struggle for an answer to the question what it actually means to be Ecuadorian ¨C the ecuatorianidad ¨C and look for new concepts to reconstruct the cultural fundamentals of the country¡¯s national identity. The novel published by Felic¨ªsimo Angel Rojas, El ¨¦xodo of Yangana, illustrates this quest for identity as it puts popular culture at the core of the ecuatorianidad. However, the author merges stylistic elements of this popular culture with scholarly style, transcending the narration to a universal meaning. The theme of the exodus therefore articulates a twofold popular and erudite dimension, thus contributing to the founding myth of a new Ecuador. La d¨¦cada del treinta representa en el Ecuador una crisis in¨¦dita, econ¨®mica, pol¨ªtica pero tambi¨¦n cultural e identitaria, que amenaza el ideal de Naci¨®n ecuatoriana. Una joven generaci¨®n de intelectuales y artistas reflexiona sobre la cuesti¨®n de la identidad nacional, la ecuatorianidad, en busca de nuevos proyectos de reconstrucci¨®n nacional. La novela de ¨¢ngel Felic¨ªsimo Rojas, El ¨¦xodo de Yangana, ilustra esta b¨²squeda identitaria, valorando una cultura popular presentada como la base de la ecuatorianidad. Pero las figuras de esta cultura popular son tambi¨¦n reelaboradas por el filtro de una cultura acad¨¦mica, permiti¨¦ndole a la narraci¨®n tener un alcance universal. El tema del ¨¦xodo va articula
