%X Tomando a Early Algebra como ¨¢rea de pesquisa que visa uma abordagem para o ensino e aprendizagem da ¨¢lgebra inicial, este artigo apresenta uma an¨¢lise das atitudes, indaga  es e produ  es escritas, enfim, o comportamento de crian as em resolu  o de tarefas. O objetivo foi identificar e analisar caracter¨ªsticas do pensamento alg¨¦brico em tarefas aplicadas a estudantes do Ensino Fundamental I. Mais especificamente, buscamos compreender como trinta e cinco estudantes do 5o Ano do Ensino Fundamental I de uma escola p¨²blica do munic¨ªpio de Apucarana-PR lidam com tarefas que promovem o desenvolvimento do pensamento alg¨¦brico. Para organiza  o e interpreta  o dos dados, empregamos procedimentos ¨¤ luz da An¨¢lise de Conte¨²do, sendo esta uma modalidade de pesquisa qualitativa. Por meio das respostas apresentadas e das indaga  es e afirma  es dos estudantes durante a resolu  o das tarefas, o estudo mostrou que embora as resolu  es nem sempre estivessem corretas, estas evidenciam ind¨ªcios de pensamento alg¨¦brico, uma vez que os participantes desse estudo perceberam e tentaram expressar as estruturas aritm¨¦ticas das situa  es-problema, assim como, descreveram seus processos de pensamento. Portanto, esses estudantes do Ensino Fundamental I t¨ºm condi  es de lidar e de desenvolver aspectos relacionados ao pensamento alg¨¦brico, mesmo n o apresentando uma linguagem simb¨®lica alg¨¦brica. Taking Early Algebra as a research area that seeks an approach to the teaching and learning of early algebra, this paper presents an analysis of attitudes, questions and written productions that provide clues about the behavior of children in solving tasks. The objective was to identify and analyze characteristics of algebraic thinking in tasks applied to elementary school students. More specifically, we aimed to understand how thirty-five students from the 5th year of elementary school in a public school in the city of Apucarana-PR deal with tasks that promote the development of algebraic thinking. For organizing and interpreting data, we used procedures in the light of Content Analysis, which is a form of qualitative research. By means of responses, questions and statements from students during the resolution of tasks, the study showed that although the resolutions were not always correct, they show signs of algebraic thinking, since the study participants noticed and tried to express the arithmetic structures of problem situations, as well as described their thought processes. Therefore, these elementary school students are able to cope and develop aspects related to algebraic thinking
