It is a penalty for misbehavior with the intention of shaming a child in order to make him/her a counter productive. It is a deliberated infliction of pain intended to correct or punish. In schools, physical punishment is used as a corrective measure in order to guide the child. The cane was the common tool used for correcting the child. This cane was called light cane or junior cane which was always present in class in Asia, Europe and the European colonies in the 19th and 20th centuries, to be administered to young school children. %U http://www.sciedu.ca/journal/index.php/wje/article/view/780
