%X Resumen: El presente art赤culo tiene como objetivo presentar los resultados de una investigaci車n que estudi車 la relaci車n entre clima familiar y la respuesta emp芍tica de ni os y ni as menores de 12 a os. La muestra estuvo conformada por 444 ni os y ni as de 10 a 12 a os, estudiantes de tres escuelas del 芍rea de San Jos谷. Se examin車 el Index of Empathy for Children and Adolescents (en castellano) y el Cuestionario de Autoridad Parental para ni os y ni as. Versi車n experimental. Los hallazgos muestran resultados estad赤sticamente significativos para la variable estilo autoritativo y sexo, como variables que mejor explican la respuesta emp芍tica de los ni os y de las ni as de este estudio, a su vez, se confirma que las mujeres muestran mayor respuesta emp芍tica que los varones y adem芍s perciben su clima familiar m芍s autoritativo que los varones.Abstract: The present article aims to analyze the relationship between family environment and empathic response as perceived by the children. The sample is composed of 444 children aged from 10 to 12 years old, and studying in three primary schools in the San Jos谷, Costa Rica. It was considered the Index of Empathy for Children and Adolescents and the Parental Authority Questionnaire for children. Experimental version. (Adapted from the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). The findings show statistically significant results for the variable authoritative style and sex as variables that best explain the empathic response of the children in this study. It confirms that women show greater empathic response that men and women perceive their family environment more authoritative than men.
