The objective of this article is to summarize the contribution of the Asturian feminists to the creation of the social and political network that was developed in Spain in such remarkable period as it was the Spanish political transition. The death of Francisco Franco in 1975 was the first step in the transition from dictatorship to the configuration of a democratic system. In such a context, a number of women∩s movements and the feminist movement played a significant role. Between the end of dictatorship in 1975 and 1983, the year in which the Institute of the Woman was created, feminists published their political programme and added a specific point of view about the society; they pointed out the discriminatory attitude towards women during centuries; a claim was vigorously made that no democratic country could be built with only half of the population. Asturias was a microcosm in which women∩s universal claims could be seen and also experienced, and in this way, the Feminist Association of Asturias streamed the claims and activism of all the Asturian women in the political transition. %K Feminismo %K Historia de las mujeres %K Transici車n pol赤tica %K Historia de Asturias %K Mujeres asturianas %K Feminism %K Women∩s studies %K Political transition %K The history of Asturias %K Asturian women %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1669-57042005000100002
