It is based on literacy studies that view literacy as a set of social-cultural practices involving the technology of writing (SCRIBNER; COLE, 1981; STREET, 1984; HEATH, 2001; GEE, 2004; BARTON, 2007) in their constitution. The article is divided in three sections: the first one discusses the concept of literacy; the second one advocates literacy as the educational aim of schools; finally, studies on literacy and additional language teaching are presented, and the concept of assessment is discussed. %K Literacy %K Social practices %K Reading %K Writing %K Additional languages %U http://www2.unucseh.ueg.br/vialitterae/assets/files/volume_revista/vol_4_num_1/Via_Litterae_4-1_2012_2-CLAUDIA_DUTRA_Letramento-praticas_ensino_ling_adicionais.pdf
