%X Objetivo: Cuantificar la relaci車n entre el asma y la hipertensi車n arterial inducida por el embarazo. M谷todo: Estudio de 200 casos con hipertensi車n inducida por el embarazo y 1 222 controles. An芍lisis realizado por regresi車n log赤stica m迆ltiple. Ambiente: Hospital ※Antonio Mar赤a Pineda§, Barquisimeto, Lara; 1998-2002. Resultados: Hubo 131 embarazadas con asma documentada (9,21 %) y la hipertensi車n inducida por el embarazo fue m芍s com迆n en pacientes asm芍ticas (45/131; 34,35 %) que en las no-asm芍ticas (155/1291; 12,01 %). Luego del ajuste para posibles factores de confusi車n, se determin車 una asociaci車n significativa entre el asma y la hipertensi車n inducida por el embarazo (raz車n de probabilidades = 4,05; intervalo de 95 % de confianza = 2,71 a 6,06; P < 0,0001). Conclusiones: Este estudio confirma que el asma se relaciona con la hipertensi車n inducida por el embarazo, pero el mecanismo de esta relaci車n a迆n debe determinarse. Results: There were 131 pregnant women with documented asthma (9.09 %) and pregnancy-induced hypertension was more common in asthmatic subjects (45/131; 34.35 %) than in non-asthmatic subjects (155/1291; 12.01 %). After adjustment for potential confounders, maternal asthma was significantly associated with pregnancy-induced hypertension (odds ratio = 4.05; 95 % confidence interval = 2.71 to 6.06; P < 0.01). Conclusions: This study confirms that asthma is associated with pregnancy-induced hypertension, but the mechanisms that cause this outcome are yet to be assessed.
