%X A partir de las pol¨¦micas de fin de siglo xx en torno al arte de vanguardia, se inicia un replanteamiento de la teor¨ªa del arte desde al menos dos frentes: por un lado, debe revisarse el trabajo explicativo de la teor¨ªa del arte, y por el otro, el problema de la relaci¨®n entre arte y sociedad para superar las dicotom¨ªas entre pureza y compromiso. Este ensayo propone un acercamiento a esta doble problem¨¢tica. En primer lugar, se tratar¨¢ de reinterpretar los problemas de la teor¨ªa del arte desde el marco de algunas discusiones de finales del siglo xx. En segundo lugar, se delimitar¨¢n dos variables fundamentales que la teor¨ªa del arte deber¨ªa tener en cuenta en su labor comprensiva. Finalmente, se revisar¨¢ una manera de entender la relaci¨®n arte-sociedad que pueda escapar a la dicotom¨ªa de pureza y compromiso. Considering certain polemics that surrounded the avant-garde on the xx century, the following essay will try to reinterpret Art Theory from two points of view: on the one hand, its explicative function, and on the other, the problematic relationship between art and society. These views must be revised in order to surpass the dichotomy of artistic purity and its commitment. This essay proposes an approximation to this dual problematic. At the first, it will try to reinterpret the problems of the Art Theory following a few discussions from the late twentieth century. Then, the paper will delimit two fundamental variables, which must be taken into account to understand its comprehensive function. Finally, it will come to an understanding about a sort of relationship between art and society that could be able to escape the dichotomy of purity and commitment previously mentioned.
