%X O surgimento da consci¨ºncia c¨ªvica na Inglaterra do s¨¦culo XVII esteve vinculado ¨¤ controv¨¦rsia constitucional nas d¨¦cadas que precederam a guerra civil. O conflito pol¨ªtico provocou uma intensa explora  o intelectual, dando lugar ao surgimento de ideias e conceitos que se transformariam em dominantes no discurso e no pensamento pol¨ªticos modernos. O texto tem como foco a an¨¢lise dessas linguagens que contribu¨ªram para o desenvolvimento dessa consci¨ºncia c¨ªvica. Analisaremos, portanto, a linguagem do direito e os elementos nesta linguagem que contribu¨ªram para o desenvolvimento da consci¨ºncia c¨ªvica moderna. Se for verdade que a linguagem do direito foi um dos principais legados pol¨ªticos do s¨¦culo XVII, o texto sugere que a linguagem da virtude tamb¨¦m teve uma importancia decisiva e analisa a exist¨ºncia de uma articula  o complexa e contradit¨®ria entre ambas no surgimento da moderna consci¨ºncia c¨ªvica. The emergence of civic consciousness in 17th century England was linked to constitutional controversy in the decades preceding the civil war. The political conflict sparked an intense intellectual exploration, giving rise to the emergence of ideas and concepts that became dominant in modern political thought. The text focuses on the analysis of these languages that contributed to the development of civic consciousness. We will analyze, therefore, the language of law and the elements that contributed to the development of modern civic consciousness. If it is true that the language of law was one of the main political legacies of the 17th century, the text suggests that the language of virtue also had a crucial importance and we discuss the existence of a complex and contradictory articulation between both in the emergence of modern civic consciousness.
