%X This article analyzes the iconographic construction of the image of the american indian in Spain and Mexico. The analysis has been done using the History Textbooks in both countries in the period 1940-1945. The aim of this report is to carry out a comparative study about one of the historical discourse items, the indian figure, as the historic-cultural identity component in the two countries. The analysis of the inconographic representation lets us apreciate, since a plastic point of view, the way in which these images contributed to shape this abstract and intangible entity that is the nation.//Este art赤culo analiza la construcci車n iconogr芍fica de la figura del indio en Espa a y M谷xico, a partir de las im芍genes que fueron realizadas para ilustrar los manuales escolares de Historia en ambos pa赤ses en el periodo comprendido entre 1940 y 1945. El objetivo es hacer un estudio comparado de la interpretaci車n de uno de los elementos del discurso hist車rico, la figura del indio, en cuanto componente de la identidad hist車ricocultural de los dos pa赤ses. El an芍lisis de la representaci車n iconogr芍fica nos permitir芍 apreciar desde un punto de vista pl芍stico la forma que se dio a uno de los elementos que constituye ese ente abstracto e intangible que es la naci車n.
