%X Rocksexposed just south of Puerto Deseado (Port Desire), Santa Cruz Province, weresurveyed by Darwin during his journey on board HMS Beagle. The fossil molluskscollected there were studied later by Sowerby, who described four species basedon the material from "Port Desire". Sedimentological andstratigraphical observations suggest that the marine rocks cropping out atDarwin's locality should be assigned to the Monte Le車n Formation (earlyMiocene). The rocks were deposited in subtidal environments, most precisely inan offshore environment near fair weather wave base at the bottom to a lowershoreface at the top of the section. Las rocas expuestas al sur de PuertoDeseado, provincia de Santa Cruz, fueron relevadas por Darwin durante su viaje abordo del HMS Beagle. Los moluscos f車siles que coleccion車 fueron estudiados porSowerby quien describi車 cuatro especies basadas en ejemplares procedentes dePuerto Deseado. Las observaciones sedimentol車gicas y estratigr芍ficas sugierenque estos dep車sitos marinos, estudiados originalmente por Darwin, sonasignables a la Formaci車n Monte Le車n (Mioceno temprano). En general, las rocasrepresentan ambientes submareales que en el tramo inferior de la sucesi車ncorresponden a un costa afuera, pr車ximo al nivel de base de olas de buentiempo, mientras que hacia el techo pasan a un shoreface inferior.
