%X Landscape painting was developed in the romantic and realistic modernism with the representation of rural or regional landscapes. French impressionism was the first stream interested in city representation emphasizing the habits and the social way of life in the public space defined as cultural centers. Years later, cubism represented cities interpreting the form as a geometric geomorphology of cubes. The main target of this contribution is the analysis of cities characterization in both pictured streams at the end of XIX century and beginning of XX. La pintura pisajistica que prioriz¨® la modernidad desarrollo diversas corrientes entre las cuales el romant¨ªcismo y el realismo empiezan a dar cuenta de temas m¨¢s cercanos con la realidad que se viv¨ªa en ese momento. El impresionismo es la primera corriente que puede considerarse netamente urbana en donde las costumbres y la ciudad son el eje central de su representaci¨®n. Con el tiempo el cubismo utiliza una forma m¨¢s simb¨®lica y la deconstruye.
