La enfermedad predomin¨® en el grupo etario de m¨¢s de 8 a os y en los varones, mientras que entre las formas cl¨ªnicas de presentaci¨®n sobresalieron el s¨ªndrome an¨¦mico, las manifestaciones purpuricohemorr¨¢gicas y la fiebre. El tipo de leucemia principalmente observada fue la linfobl¨¢stica aguda y la de mayor mortalidad, la mieloide cr¨®nica; las infecciones y hemorragias resultaron ser las complicaciones m¨¢s importantes en la serie. A descriptive and cross-sectional study of 94 children with leukemia, admitted in the Hematology Service of the Teaching Southern Children Hospital from Santiago de Cuba was carried out during the five year period 2006-2010, in order to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of these patients. The disease prevailed in the age group of more than 8 years and in males, while among the clinical forms of presentation there were: the anemic syndrome, the purpureal and hemorrhagic manifestations and fever. The type of leukemia mostly observed was the lymphoblastic acute leukemia and that of higher mortality, was the chronic myeloid leukemia.
