%X The present article proposes a political reading of two texts that are connected to each other: the History of the Incas by Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa and the Antiquitatum Variarum by Annio de Viterbo, a collection of spurious texts from the end of the 15th century. Doing a synthesis between the Antiquitatum and the platonic myth of Atlantis, Sarmiento argued that the Indians were descendants of T¨²bal lineage, the grandson of Noah and founder of the Hispanic monarchy which had come to the Indies after the Universal Flood. It is proposed that the History of the Incas as well as the Antiquitatum were part of an official current of imperial representation of the past promoted by the Catholic Kings, that was projected to Spanish and Indies chronicles during the 16th century. El presente art¨ªculo propone una lectura pol¨ªtica de dos libros vinculados entre s¨ª: la Historia de los Incas de Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa y la Antiquitatum Variarum de Annio de Viterbo, una colecci¨®n de textos espurios de fines del siglo XV. Haciendo una s¨ªntesis entre la Antiquitatum y el mito plat¨®nico de la Atl¨¢ntida, Sarmiento argument¨® que los indios descend¨ªan de la estirpe de T¨²bal, el nieto de No¨¦ y fundador de la monarqu¨ªa hisp¨¢nica, que hab¨ªa llegado a las Indias despu¨¦s del Diluvio Universal. Se propone que tanto la Historia de los Incas como la Antiquitatum formaron parte de una corriente oficial de representaci¨®n del pasado de corte imperial promovida por los Reyes Cat¨®licos, que se proyect¨® a las cr¨®nicas hispanas y a las de Indias en el transcurso del siglo XVI.
