%X The article discusses the mentality of modernization and technological experimentation which accompanied the enlightened elite of the Cuban sugar-producing oligarchy in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries. Data and documents show this powerful Havana group＊s noted interest in increasing the production of the sweet produce, what drove them to engage with English factories to produce modern-designed milis and construction materials that made them more durable and powerful. We＊ll show the diligence and persistence of the sugar-producing elite to achieve its economic and political goals and how through their spokesman Francisco de Arango y Parre o they demanded the King＊s permission for a technologicalindustrial espionage trip through Europe and the Caribbean that helped them to introduce new machines and modern technology. The investment capital accumulated by some members of the elite and the negotiations of the management of the Royal Trading Company of Havana in C芍diz, Bristol and London were fundamental to this process. El art赤culo aborda la mentalidad de modernizaci車n y experimentaci車n tecnol車gica que acompa 車 a la 谷lite ilustrada de la oligarqu赤a azucarera de Cuba entre los siglos XVIII y XIX. Se demuestra con datos y documentos el marcado inter谷s de este poderoso grupo habanero por hacer crecer la producci車n del dulce, lo que los condujo a contratar, con f芍bricas inglesas, la producci車n de los molinos con un dise o moderno, y materiales constructivos que los hicieron m芍s duraderos y potentes. Mostraremos la diligencia y persistencia de la 谷lite azucarera para lograr sus objetivos econ車micos y pol赤ticos y c車mo a trav谷s de su vocero Francisco de Arango y Parre o reclamaron al rey autorizaci車n para un periplo por Europa y el Caribe de espionaje tecnol車gico-industrial que les sirvi車 para introducir nuevas m芍quinas y tecnolog赤a moderna. En este proceso fue fundamental la inversi車n del capital acumulado por algunos miembros de la 谷lite v las gestiones realizadas por directivos de la Real Compa 赤a de Comercio de la Habana en C芍diz, Bristol y Londres.
