This region has evolved integrated into the Moroccan Administration since 1976, with a special tax and budget systems, with economic privileges for the indigenous population, leading to major changes in economic and demographic structure due to the intervention of state and private operators and the empowerment by the state of an immigration policy counteracting the low population density aggravated by the events occurring during the decolonization process.
