%0 Journal Article %T Occupational violence: risk situation to dignity and integrity of health professionals %A Glaucea Maciel de Farias %A Luiz Alves Morais Filho %A Rodrigo Assis Neves Dantas %A Karolina de Moura Manso da Rocha %J Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line %D 2010 %I Universidade Federal de Pernambuco %X Objectives: to investigate publications on occupational violence on health professionals and to know some aspects of this violence in healthcare, such as how often it happens; in which part of the hospital the events are more frequent; and who the aggressors are. Methodology: this is about a literature review study available in the online archives of Portal of BVS in BDENF, LILACS, and MEDLINE; in the CAPES Portal, and in the CINAHL and Web of Science databases. Results: 49 articles were found, of which 12 were selected for fulfilling the criteria for inclusion. The studies revealed that occupational violence is a globe-spanning problem and affects mainly nurses and physicians, being approached in the physical and psychological aspects ¨C the latter less commonly than the former. Emergency and psychiatry are the sectors that offer the greatest risks, and patients and their companions are the main aggressors. Conclusion: it¡¯s necessary to instruct health professionals on how to deal with violence.
