Prof. Dr. Atabey KILI£¿ %J Turkish Studies %D 2006 %I Turkish studies publisher %X Verse dictionaries, one of the areas of Classical Turkish Literature, hasn¡¯t been studied. Verse dictionaries were written for primary school students to teach meaning of Turkish words in Arabic and Persian. One of their utilities for children is giving more prosody knowledge. We saw that the number of verse dictionaries in Classical Turkish Literature is about 30. If we look at sources we see that verse dictionaries¡¯ commentaries are not studied. However, in Turkish Literature it is important to study verse dictionaries¡¯ commentaries. In this paper we will try to give knowledge about one of verse dictionaries¡¯ commentaries, Hediyyet¨¹¡¯l- hvan Hediyyet¨¹¡¯l- hvan is the commentary or verse dictionary S¨¹bha-i S byan. It is an Turkish-Arabic verse dictionary and used as a text book at primary schools especially in 19th century. Hediyyet¨¹¡¯l- hvan, commentary of S¨¹bha-i S byan was written by Mehmed Necib and it was published 6 times between 1840-1903.
