Method: this is about a survey study performed with 80 workers in intensive care in a public university hospital in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil. The CMD were assessed using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). It were described socio-demographic variables, work variables, the prevalence of CMD through univariate and bivariate. The Chi-square Test was used to assess the level of statistical significance. The study was approved by the Ethics in Research number 030/08 and the subjects were those who agreed with the purposes of the study and signed a formal term. Results: it was observed that the prevalence of TMC was significantly higher in those workers with monthly income above six minimum wages, job security, with and between those who work in coronary unit. Conclusion: the findings demonstrate the need for preventive actions aimed at better quality of life in promotion workplace and mental health for employees of nursing sectors of intensive care. %K stress %K mental health %K mental disorders. %U http://www.ufpe.br/revistaenfermagem/index.php/revista/article/view/1106/pdf_270
