%0 Journal Article %T CHANGES IN TURKISH SYLLABLE STRUCTURE T¨¹RK HECE YAPISINDAK DE MELER %A Ahmet BENZER %J Turkish Studies %D 2010 %I Turkish studies publisher %X The creation of meaningful structure of sound created with a combination of the structure is called a syllable, and a limited number of these structures in Turkish and in the process occurred a long time. In this study, the adaptability of the syllable structures that begin with double consonants, which are transmitted to Turkish from other languages and which are supposed to have completed to become part of the Turkish language process, to Turkish syllable-structure is searched. From this respect, the classification studies of 4,6, and 16 to determine Turkish syllable-structure are scrutinized, and the answer to the question of ¡° Whether the syllables beginning with double-consonant should adapt to Turkish syllable structure or Turkish syllable structure should be changed?¡± is examined. The words that include double consonant syllables at the beginning or inside which are taken from 2005 Spelling (Ortography) Guide constitute the sample of the study. As a result of this study it is found out that Turkish syllable-structure is more suitable to the structure frame of syllable-16 rather than sylalble-6 and that the usage of word tiren instead of tren does not create a discrepancy both for the rules and culture of Turkish Language, indeed contrarily this kind of a usage brings about the unity of language.
