Cz I %A El£¿bieta Pl£¿skowska %A Magdalena Korol %A Rafa£¿ Og¨®rek %J Medical Mycology %D 2011 %I %X Introduction: Public rooms are characterized by different concentration and species composition a fungi, depending on the type a the public use object, its age, maintainance and the presence a air conditioning. Aim of the study: The research objective was to evaluate the extent a mycological air pollution in selected rooms a the public use, depending on the air conditioning (AC) mode (on or af), by determining the number and species composition a fungi. Material and methods: The study material was the air taken up from 10 distinct spaces in public building. The analysis was performed using Koch sedimentation method. Results: Air mycological analysis showed that in the second period a research (in July), when the AC was on, the total number a fungi isolated in the studied rooms was higher than during the first period (in April), when the AC did not work. The most commonly found in all the places were representatives a Penicillium spp, Aspergillus spp, and Cladosporium spp. The types a fungi such as Trichoderma, Phoma and Sclerotinia occurred sporadically. In the areas a research sampled during the second study period, there occurred significantly more fungi a the genus Cladosporium compared to the first study period. Conclusions: Air conditioning contributes to increased indoor air pollution by spores and scraps a mycelium a filamentous fungi, mainly a the types a Cladosporium. The air in the studied air-conditioned rooms was not heavily contaminated by filamentous fungi and yeasts, because clean air in these rooms can be considered good.
