%X Las universidades constituyen la columna vertebral del subsistema cient赤fico-tecnol車gico de cada pa赤s, y por eso, les corresponde estimular el esp赤ritu creativo, as赤 como la formaci車n cient赤fica de los profesionales. Se presentan los resultados de una investigaci車n realizada con el objetivo reflexionar en torno al papel de la investigaci車n cient赤fica en la universidad m谷dica y el aporte de soluciones concretas a los problemas de salud con un impacto social. Se realiz車 la revisi車n documental del plan de estudio de la carrera de medicina, y se tuvo en cuenta la opini車n de expertos. Constituye una necesidad elevar la calidad de la preparaci車n para la investigaci車n de los graduados de las ciencias de la salud, en especial, de los m谷dicos que egresan con la responsabilidad de asumir el trabajo en la Atenci車n Primaria de Salud, donde realizan importantes investigaciones que contribuyan a elevar la calidad de las acciones de prevenci車n y promoci車n de salud y la atenci車n m谷dica en esta instancia. La universidad m谷dica debe contribuir a una sociedad inteligente del conocimiento a trav谷s del aseguramiento de altos niveles de calidad y seguridad de la vida de la poblaci車n, y para ello, es primordial convencerse de la importancia de generar un cambio en las creencias y h芍bitos frente a la investigaci車n, es decir, desarrollar una cultura de la investigaci車n en las instituciones educativas y en especial en las educaci車n superior. The universities constitute the cornerstone of scientific-technological subsystem in every country, which have the duty of encouraging the creativity, as well as scientific training of professionals. The results of a research carried out with the objective of reflecting on the role of scientific research in medical universities and the contribution to concrete solutions to health problems having a social impact are shown. A documentary review of the syllabus for medical studies was conducted considering the opinion of experts. It constitutes a need to increase the quality of training for medical science graduates to research, specially, medical graduates with the responsibility of assuming the work in Primary Health Care, where important research activities are organized, direct to increase the quality of actions regarding health prevention/promotion and medical care. The university must contribute to an intelligent society of knowledge through the achievement of high levels in quality and life security to the population, to achieve it, it is essential to be convinced of the importance of generating a change in belief and habits of research
