Methods: The study group consisted of 482 prisoners incarcerated in the Mersin E Type Prison. The first aid knowledge levels of prisoners were evaluated using a questionnaire. Results: A total of 482 prisoners were surveyed (age range: 18-67 years, median age: 31.4 years). Presentations were secondary to syncope (17.9%), fractures/dislocation/sprains (13.4%) and lacerations (12.5%). The average number of correct answers on the questionnaire was 42.42¡À16.44. Of the prisoners, approximately 50% failed the test. Conclusions: The level of first aid knowledge among the prisoners was low. First aid knowledge can be improved by providing first aid training to prison inmates. %K Prison %K first aid %K accident %K prisoners. %U http://dx.doi.org/10.5505/1304.7361.2012.88609
