%X (E): The first part of the article analyses the use of photography, particularly in artists¡¯ books, during the 1960s and 1970s. The aim is to show how artists of this period employed the photographic document in opposition to the documentary aesthetics of photojournalism, and to study the attention those artists paid to amateur photography. The second part analyses the work of three contemporary artists (Mathieu Tremblin, Jean-Baptiste Ganne, Hubert Renard) in the light of the accomplishments of the 1960s and 1970s. In order to define the document and distinguish it from fiction it seems to be necessary to come back to the very concepts that form the basis of the cognitive process in human sciences. That¡¯s the price artistes have to pay when they refer nowadays to the photographic document of the 1960s and 1970s.    (F): Dans la premi¨¨re partie de l¡¯article l¡¯auteur analyse l¡¯emploi de la photographie dans les ann¨¦es 1960 et 1970, notamment dans les livres r¨¦alis¨¦s par les artistes, pour montrer comment l¡¯usage documentaire de la photographie se construisait en opposition ¨¤ l¡¯esth¨¦tique documentaire du photojournalisme et pour examiner l¡¯attention que les artistes portaient ¨¤ la photographie amateur. La seconde partie ¨¦tudie trois d¨¦marches des artistes d¡¯aujourd¡¯hui (Mathieu Tremblin, Jean-Baptiste Ganne, Hubert Renard) pour interroger notamment les acquis ainsi expos¨¦s des ann¨¦es 1960 et 1970. Pour d¨¦finir le document et le distinguer de la fiction, il faudrait ¨C conclut l¡¯auteur ¨C avoir recours aux m¨ºmes concepts que ceux qui fondent le processus cognitif des sciences humaines. C¡¯est ¨¤ ce prix seulement que peuvent ¨ºtre d¨¦fendues aujourd¡¯hui les valeurs pos¨¦es par les artistes qui ont eu un recours m¨¦thodique au document photographique dans les ann¨¦es 1960 et 1970.
