%X Este trabajo aporta una serie de datos emp赤ricos que muestran el fracaso de la instituci車n penitenciaria en Espa a a la hora de logar el objetivo de la socializaci車n y/o re-socializaci車n de los internos, como as赤 lo reflejan los 赤ndices de reincidencia penitenciaria. La supuesta funci車n (re)insertadora de la prisi車n se deval迆a, para adquirir otra "plusval赤a", la de legitimar ideol車gicamente la desviaci車n social en aras de un orden establecido. Se ha recurrido a una aproximaci車n cualitativa y cuantitativa, sobre una muestra de 396 internos de los centros penitenciarios aragoneses. Los resultados apuntan que si bien el objetivo formal es la rehabilitaci車n social, lo que termina por imponerse es la consolidaci車n de las identidades prisionizadas a modo de una "desocializaci車n ciudadana". This paper aims to provide a set of empirical data that show the failure of the penal institution in Spain towards the goal of socialization and/or re-socialization of the inmates, as shown by prison recidivism rates. The role of prisons as institutions for the reinsertion of criminals is devalued as it gets the "added value" of legitimizing the ideological deviation from a given social order. Qualitative and quantitative methodology was used on a sample of 396 inmates from Aragonese penitentiary centres. The results show that although social rehabilitation is supposed to be the main objective of the penitentiary sytem, the reality is that "prisoning" identities are reinforced as some kind of "de-socialized citizenship."
