The objective of this study is to appreciate the contribution of animal traction to the improvement of the profitability of the cotton culture and to find out the determinants of the investment in animal traction on which the government can act to boost this technology in the Central African Republic. To reach this objective, financial and econometric analysis has been done on a sample of 300 cotton farms in the northwest and the east-center of the production areas. The results of this study show that cotton production using animal traction is more profitable than cotton production in manual culture. The rate of profitability for the manual culture is about - 0.14 against 0.45 for the animal traction. For the income of cotton to be positive in manual culture in the present conditions, it is necessary to have an output superior to 834 kg/ ha. Otherwise, the econometric analysis shows that the main determinants of the investment in animal traction are the access to credit of the producers and the income of cotton. To boost animal traction in order to improve the profitability of the cotton culture, the government must create conditions which facilitate the granting of credit and increase the price of cotton to the producers while stabilizing the prices of inputs. %K Animal traction %K Investment %K Profitability %K Cotton culture %K Central African Republic %U http://www.tropicultura.org/text/v28n3/178.pdf
