%X Se presentan los principios del Aprendizaje Basado en Problemas (ABP), un enfoque educativo que utiliza los problemas como principal est赤mulo para el aprendizaje; se apoya m芍s en la necesidad que tiene el alumno de aprender que en la transmisi車n de conocimientos por parte del profesor y enfatiza m芍s la adquisici車n de habilidades para resolver problemas y aprender en forma continua que la obtenci車n y memorizaci車n de informaci車n. Se describe la estrategia de los grupos tutoriales como una de las mejores herramientas disponibles para implementar el enfoque ABP en la educaci車n m谷dica. Finalmente, se presentan los efectos observados tras ponerlo en pr芍ctica en escuelas de medicina de Europa y Norteam谷rica. This paper describes the main tenets of Problem-based Learning (PBL), an educational approach that emphasizes the utilization of real problems as a natural stimulus for learning; encourages identification of learning needs by students themselves more than dissertations on the part of teachers and promotes the development of problem-solving and learning skills more than the acquisition and recall of factual knowledge. The tutorial group as an useful tool for the implementation of PBL in medical education is also described. Information about observed effects of PBL in european and north american medical schools is included.
