%0 Journal Article %T Bowel diseases and the oral cavity Choroby jelit a jama ustna %A Maria Chomyszyn-Gajewska %A Dorota Cibor %A Tomasz Mach %J Polish Gastroenterology %D 2011 %I %X On the basis of the literature, the pathologic changes in the oral cavity mucosa occurring during the diseases of the nutritional tract, especially inflammatory bowel disease, were described. These lesions concern, among others, patients with colitis ulcerosa and Crohn's disease. Specific and nonspecific changes on oral mucosa were presented. The attention was drawn to the possible risk factors of their occurrence in relationship with gender, age, smoking, geographical location, stress and treatment. Recommendations of proceedings in the dental office were suggested as well as the role of the dentist in early recognition of oral symptoms, which might precede the ones from the bowel.
