Se estudi車 el perfil de aspirantes a educaci車n superior, con objeto de identificar qu谷 factores influyen para ingresar o no a este nivel; se analizaron aspectos como g谷nero, trayectoria educativa, nivel socioecon車mico y localidad de origen. Participaron 3,098 aspirantes a 24 programas acad谷micos de la Universidad de Guanajuato del ciclo escolar 1997-1998. Los resultados muestran que: El ingreso familiar es superior para los aspirantes aceptados que para los no aceptados; fueron aceptados m芍s varones que mujeres; se aceptaron m芍s residentes del corredor industrial que de otras localidades; hubo m芍s movilidad social intergeneracional con respecto a las madres que a los padres. Entender el origen de las inequidades educativas y conocer la relaci車n entre las caracter赤sticas socioecon車micas de los aspirantes permite comprender y prevenir las desigualdades educativas. Social inequalities regarding access, permanence, and success in educational processes have their origin in personal, family, social, and economic factors. The profile of students seeking entry into institutions of higher education was studied in order to identify which personal factors, such as gender, educational path, socioeconomic background and locality, have an influence on access to higher education programs at the Universidad de Guanajuato in the academic year 1997-1998. Results show several differences: Family income is higher for accepted applicants than for non-accepted ones; more male than female applicants were accepted; more residents from the industrial corridor were accepted than from other localities; and there was more intergenerational social mobility of children in reference to mothers than fathers.
