La m¨ºme logique, sur le plan international, pousse le Br¨¦sil vers un ¨¦largissement de son horizon, ¨¤ la recherche d¡¯une   insertion souveraine dans la globalisation  . Populism, neo-liberalism, military regimes, the rise of the Left, social democracy and radicalism, the relationship between democracy and economy: H¨¦lgio Trindade first offers a broad analysis of Latina America¡¯s key parameters since the 1930s. The new profile of Brazil under Lula is then defined. The re-elected President aims to combine economic growth and financial stability with social policy in order to consolidate democracy, even if this involves extending the social base and moderating the discourse of the Workers¡¯ Party. Similarly, on the international front, Brazil is expanding its horizons, in an effort to insert itself into the globalisation process while still taking its own sovereignty into account.
