%X The cultural identity of a people does by no means standfor a whole lot of historical data, yet it is built and rebuilt according tocivilisation values, the common denominator of such operations being thereferences to aesthetically recognized truths. The poet Mihai Eminescuturned up on the literary scene in a moment when Romanian literature aimedat a cultural European destiny ¨C the consequence of almost a century-oldsynchronising ¨C yet without being turned to account, the ethnicity elementbeing subject to obvios political connotations.
