Radha %A Shyni.Bernard %A K.N.Girija %J Hygeia : Journal for Drugs and Medicines %D 2013 %I %X Plan: Ananalytical method for the estimation of Lomefloxacin in bulk drug and pharmaceutical dosageforms by HPTLC is described.Prologue: Themethod is simple, fast and accurate and can be used for routineanalysis of commercial Lomefloxacin tablets.Methodology: Thedeveloped method used precoated silica gel 60F254 as stationary phase. Themobile phase used was a mixture of 2-Propanol: water: ammonia (86:8:6 %v/v/v).The RF value was 0.14.The detection of spots was carried out at 288nm. Thecalibration curve was found to be linear between 10 and 70 ng/spot with acorrelation coefficient of 0.9969. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit ofquantification (LOQ) were found to be 5 ng/spot and 10 ng/spot respectively.Outcome: Theproposed method has been applied successfully for the determination of Lomefloxacin inpharmaceutical dosage forms. No significant interference was observed fromexcipients, coloring and flavoring agents commonly used in the formulation.
