It is the objective of the present paper to study Saraband as a specific text in itself and,at the same time, as Bergman's definitive work, because of the way he deals with the essential topics makingup his universe. We are faced with a "synthesis-film" that brings together the essentials of Bergman's prolificcareer. The drama between parents and children and the lament on the loss of the beloved woman form thetwo axes along which such a thematic universe -life, death, love, hate, suffering- takes shapes as tragedy andpassion %K Text analysis.
