Foi elaborado a partir de uma revis o bibliogr¨¢fica que discutia sobre expans o do ensino superior, recentraliza o urbana brasileira e paranaense e o espa o urbano, e com base nos indicadores produzidos pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estat¨ªstica (IBGE) e Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas (Inep). Com o aumento das IES, Maring¨¢ passou a exercer uma forte tend¨ºncia de se consolidar como um p¨®lo educacional e cultural, trazendo profundas mudan as na (re)produ o do espa o urbano e seus respectivos conte¨²dos. Destarte, Maring¨¢ passou a atrair vestibulandos e acad¨ºmicos de diversas cidades do Estado do Paran¨¢ e de outros Estados do Brasil, os quais utilizam servi os, moradia, infra-estrutura, com¨¦rcio, ¨¢rea de lazer, desencadeando significativas transforma es econ micas, sociais, pol¨ªticas e geoespaciais. This article discusses the transformations occurring in the urban space of Maring¨¢, emphasizing the changes occurring since the implementation of Higher Education institutions. The study is based on indicator of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics and of the National Institute of Studies and Research, as well as ona bibliographical review which discusses the expansion of higher education, the urban recentralization in Brazil and in the State of Paran¨¢, and the urban space. As these institutions became more numerous, Maring¨¢ consolidated itself as an educational and cultural center, causing deep changes in the (re)production of urban space and its respective contents. As a consequence, the city began attracting an increasing number of university candidates and academics from other cities in Paran¨¢ and even from other Brazilian states.
