%X O presente trabalho tem como preocupa  o fazer algumas reflex es sobre o pensamento de L¨²cio Aneu S¨ºneca, pol¨ªtico e pensador do s ¨¦culo I da era crist , no que se refere ¨¤ morte, natural ou provocada por suic¨ªdio, que ¨¦ apresentada pelo pensador latino como parte integrante do conte¨²do para a forma  o do homem ideal, o s¨¢bio. S¨ºnecaentende que a morte ¨¦ um dos deveres da exist¨ºncia, cabendo ao homem ideal, o s¨¢bio, ser formado no sentido de tomar consci¨ºncia dessa condi  o e, por extens o, romper com o medo por ela despertado, o que se expressa em recorrer ao suic¨ªdio quando isto se fizer necess¨¢rio para preservar a dignidade da pess oa humana. Assim, cabe ¨¤ filosofia afastar do homem o medo e ang¨²stia diante da morte. Reflections on death, in its natural form or through suicide, in the works of Lucius Annaeus Seneca, a philosopher of the 1st century A.D., are provided. The Roman philosopher reflects on death as part and parcel to the formation of the ideal wise man. Since Seneca considers death as one of the duties of being, the ideal wise man must be aware of such a condition and should distance himself from the fear that its thought awakes in him. Such conscious awareness leads to suicide if it is necessary so that the dignity of the human being be preserved. Philosophy makes the human being distance himself from the fear and the anguish provoked by death.
