%X En el presente art赤culo se destacan algunas contribuciones desde el pensamiento m谷dico-social latinoamericano que escasamente han sido mencionadas en la documentaci車n existente sobre promoci車n de la salud. Sin embargo los aportes t谷orico-metodol車gicos propios de estos pa赤ses, desde numerosos/as cientistas sociales, han logrado avances significativos en los campos de la sociolog赤a m谷dica, la epidemiolog赤a social, la salud colectiva, la investigaci車n-acci車n, por nombrar s車lo algunos campos del saber. As赤 mismo, diversos acontecimientos sociopol赤ticos en este continente, a partir de la d谷cada de los a os 60, han marcado significativamente planteamientos desde la corriente social de la salud, enriqueciendo el pensar y el hacer -a la luz de posiciones pol赤ticas contrahegem車nicas- en defensa de la salud p迆blica concebida como un derecho humano fundamental The present article underlined some contributions by the Latin American medical and social thinking that have been barely mentioned in the existing documents about health promotion. However, the theoretical and methodological contributions made by a number of social scientists from these countries have achieved significant advances in the fields of medical sociology, social epidemiology, group health, research-action, just to mention some areas of knowledge. Likewise, various sociopolitical events that took place in this continent since the 60`s have significantly influenced several statements based on the social nature of health, thus enriching the way of thinking and the way of acting - in the light of counter hegemonic political positions - for the defense of the public health seen as a fundamental human right
