%X Se brindan algunos datos acerca de la vida y obra del doctor Jesse William Lazear, uno de los integrantes de la comisi車n de m谷dicos enviada a Cuba en 1900 por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos de Am谷rica para investigar las enfermedades infecciosas prevalentes en la isla, en especial en lo relativo a la etiolog赤a y la prevenci車n de la fiebre amarilla. Se ofrecen detalles en relaci車n con su trabajo como miembro de esa comisi車n, con 谷nfasis en su posici車n a favor de la teor赤a finla赤sta, la que en principio fue capaz de confirmar por s赤 solo, aunque para ello tuvo que ofrendar su valiosa vida. Con este trabajo se trata de rendir un modesto homenaje de reconocimiento, gratitud y respeto a este m芍rtir y h谷roe de la ciencia en ocasi車n del aniversario 140 de su natalicio pr車ximo a cumplirse Some data on the life and work of Dr Jesse William Lazear, one of the members of the medical commission sent to Cuba by the US government in 1900 in order to do a research of the prevailing infectious diseases in the island, particularly in the field of etiology and yellow-fever prevention, was provided. Details were given about his work as member of this commission, making emphasis on his position in favor of Finlay∩s theory that in principle he was able to confirm, although he laid down his life in this endeavor. This paper is aimed at paying a modest homage of acknowledgement, gratitude and respect to this martyr and hero of science on his 140 th birthday to be celebrated soon
