Now, it is an unquestionable reality (D¨ªAZ CINTAS & ORERO, 2003). Translation studies have advanced greatly, not only focusing on theories and practices of literary or technical translations, beginning with the contributions of Paulo R¨®nai, in Brazil, in 1956. (ESQUEDA, 2005) Today we found a fertile field of practice and research in journalistic, scientific, legal, commercial and literary translation, conference interpreting, translation for the theater, website translations or translation for localization, and, more recently, subtitling and dubbing for audiovisual materials (WYLER, 2003). However, in Brazil, most researches in the field of audiovisual translation are carried out involving foreign films translated into Portuguese. Therefore, there is a lack of research containing analyzes of Brazilian films translated into English or other languages, as well the lack of guiding elements for its methodological procedures. In this sense, this is a comparative and textual analysis research, from which were selected and examined dialect variety elements contained in the Brazilian film "Lisbela" launched in 2003 in its official version on DVD, and their translations in the subtitles in English, in order to determine which translation strategies are the most recurrent. The classification of the translation strategies is based on Gottlieb (1992). The results have shown that the most prominent translation strategy was the transfer type. %U http://sare.anhanguera.com/index.php/rtcom/article/view/4593
