%X Se realiz車 un estudio para determinar el nivel de conocimientos sobre dengue, en San Mateo, municipio Libertad, Anzo芍tegui, Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela, en el periodo comprendido de mayo a junio de 2007. El universo lo conformaron 15 000 habitantes y una muestra de 535, que fueron seleccionados por un m谷todo aleatorio simple. Los infantes de 5 a 17 a os que se incluyeron en la muestra fueron los que resid赤an en las casas de los adultos seleccionados. Como criterio de exclusi車n se tom車 a las personas que no desearon participar en el estudio. Se aplic車 una encuesta de conocimientos sobre el dengue previa validaci車n en otra localidad mediante un estudio piloto a la muestra estudiada. Las preguntas fueron evaluadas por puntos. Los resultados se expresaron en porcentajes y su intervalo de confianza. Un n迆mero considerable de pacientes result車 deficiente en la encuesta aplicada demostrando el alto desconocimiento de la poblaci車n sobre la enfermedad. Existe ausencia de informaci車n sobre los s赤ntomas, mecanismo de adquisici車n del dengue, su agente transmisor y por ende, de su prevenci車n. La radio es el medio de mayor divulgaci車n sobre el tema. A study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge on dengue in San Mateo, Libertad municipality, Anzo芍tegui, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, from May to June, 2007. The universe was composed of 15 000 inhabitants and a sample of 535 that were selected by a simple randomized method. The children aged 5-17 that were included in the sample lived in the houses of the adults that were selected. The persons that did not want to take part in the study were used as an exclusion criterion. A survey of knowledge on dengue was done previous validation in another locality by means of a pilot study carried out in the studied sample. The questions were evaluated by points. The results were expressed in percentages and confidence intervals. A considerable number of patients proved to be deficient in the survey, which showed a great lack of knowledge on this disease. There is no information on the symptoms, mechanism of acquisition of the disease, its transmitter agent and, therefore, its prevention. Most of the information on this topic is disseminated by radio.
