%X Se realiz¨® un estudio prospectivo de 193 pacientes pedi¨¢tricos que asistieron por primera vez a la consulta externa de cirug¨ªa maxilofacial en el Hospital General Provincial Docente "Carlos Manuel de C¨¦spedes" de Bayamo, durante el per¨ªodo comprendido entre el 1ro de enero de 1994 y el 31 de diciembre de 1994, con afecciones bucofaciales. Se hall¨® un predominio de los pacientes en los grupos de edades de 10 a 14 a os y del sexo masculino y con una mayor frecuencia en los pacientes del ¨¢rea rural. Los dientes retenidos ocuparon el primer lugar en las afecciones bucofaciales detectadas. De los pacientes estudiados el 47,2 % recibi¨® ingreso hospitalario. Se comentan los resultados obtenidos y se comparan ¨¦stos con la literatura m¨¦dica revisada. A prospective study on 193 pediatric patients was carried out. Patients attended for the first time the outpatient service of Maxillofacial Surgery at "Carlos Manuel de C¨¦spedes" General Provincial Teaching Hospital, Bayamo, during January 1, 1994-December 31, 1994. All patients presented with oral and facial disorders. Subjects in the age group of 10-14 years and males were found to be predominant and the greatest frequency was found among subjects from rural areas. Impacted teeth ranked first place among oral and facial disorders detected. From the patients studied 47.2 % was admitted to hospital. Results obtained are discussed and they are compared with those found in the medical literature revised.
