%X La cirug赤a refractiva de catarata ha llegado convertirse en una filosof赤a bien definida y aceptada por los cirujanos de segmento anterior. Esto significa que el objetivo a lograr debe planificarse cuidadosamente, y que la t谷cnica quir迆rgica realizada debe ser precisa. La principal motivaci車n para la realizaci車n de este trabajo, es estudiar los resultados de la t谷cnica de Tilt and Tumble en la cirug赤a de extracci車n de catarata por facoemulsificaci車n y su comportamiento en nuestro medio. Se realiz車 un estudio descriptivo, prospectivo de corte transversal, cuyo universo estuvo constituido por 272 pacientes (ojos) del Centro de Microcirug赤a Ocular (CMO) del Instituto Cubano de Oftalmolog赤a ※Ram車n Pando Ferrer§ seleccionados mediante un muestreo simple aleatorio, con una edad promedio de 61 a os. La mayor赤a de ellos presentaron dureza del cristalino y tiempo promedio de ultrasonido bajo. La agudeza visual preoperatoria y posoperatoria promedio con correcci車n mejor車 significativamente en 5 l赤neas de la cartilla de Snellen. El astigmatismo inducido por la cirug赤a fue bajo. Finalmente se analizaron las complicaciones y se detallaron los accidentes que ocurrieron durante el acto quir迆rgico, y se observ車 que la ruptura de c芍psula posterior y la salida de v赤treo fueron los eventos los m芍s frecuentes Refractive surgery of cataract has become a well-defined and widely-accepted technique by surgeons in charge of the anterior segment. This means that the objectives to be achieved should be carefully planned and that the surgical technique should be accurate. The main purpose of this paper was to study the results of Tilt & Tumble∩s technique in cataract removal surgery using phacoemulsification and its performance in our context. A prospective cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 272 patients (eyes) seen at the Ocular Microsurgery Center of ※Ram車n Pando Ferrer§ Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology, who were selected by a simple randomized sampling. Their average age was 61 years. Most of them presented with hard crystalline lens and low average time of ultrasound application. Preoperative and postoperative average visual acuity with correction significantly improved by 5 lines in Snellen∩s chart. Surgically-induced astigmatism was low. Finally, complications were examined and the events occured in the course of surgery were detailed. It was observed that rupture of posterior capsule and vitreous detachment were the most frequent events
