%X Se estudiaron los datos disponibles en la Direcci車n Nacional de Estad赤sticas del Ministerio de Salud P迆blica sobre los 414 fallecidos por o con tuberculosis en Cuba durante el per赤odo 1987-1993. Se tabularon seg迆n grupos de edad, sexos, provincia de residencia, mes de la defunci車n y realizaci車n de necropsia. Se observ車 un aumento paulatino de la tasa a partir de 1991, llegando a 7,82 por 1 mill車n de habitantes en 1993. Se calcularon los a os de vida potencial perdidos (3 114). La mortalidad en el sexo masculino determin車 el aumento de la tasa en el per赤odo (p < 0,05). Predominaron las defunciones en los mayores de 65 a os con una tasa de 26.09 por 100 000 habitantes. El mes de mayor n迆mero de defunciones fue octubre. Las provincias con mayores tasas de mortalidad por tuberculosis fueron: Ciudad de La Habana y Cienfuegos. Se aplicaron pruebas de significaci車n estad赤stica a las diferencias encontradas. The data available at the National Statistics Division of the Ministry of Public Health about the 414 death caused by tuberculosis in Cuba during 1987-1993 were studied. They were tabulated by age group, sex, province of residence, month of death, and necropsy. It was observed a gradual increase of the rate from 1991 on, amounting to 7.82 per 1 million inhabitantsin 1993. The years of potential life lost (3 114) were calculated. Mortality in the male sex determined the rise of the rate during that period (p < 0.05). Deaths predominated among individuals over 65 with a rate of 26.09 per 100 000 inhabitants. Most of the deaths occurred in October. The provinces with the highest mortality rates due to tuberculosis were applied to the differences found.
