%X Se hace una revisi車n de los fundamentos te車ricos de la aplicaci車n de la electromiograf赤a de aguja como medio diagn車stico. Se exponen y analizan los antecedentes hist車ricos de su desarrollo, las caracter赤sticas y las variables de los registros electromiogr芍ficos. La aplicaci車n de los 迆ltimos adelantos de la ciencia, la t谷cnica y los m谷todos de an芍lisis estad赤stico, han dado un impulso extraordinario a la electromiograf赤a, lo que ha permitido perfeccionar el diagn車stico funcional de las enfermedades neuromusculares y ampliar su espectro de aplicaci車n. Con el objetivo de dar a conocer estos aspectos a los especialistas de otras ramas de la medicina, se realiza esta revisi車n. A review of the theoretical foundations of the application of needle electromyography as a diagnostic tool was made. The historical background of its development, the characteristics, and variables of the electromyographic registration were exposed and analyzed. The applications of the latest advances of science, technique, and the methods of statistical analysis have triggered electromyography, allowing to improve the functional diagnosis of the neuromuscular diseases, and to widen its application spectrum. This review is aimed at making these aspects known to specialists from other medical branches.
