%X El c芍ncer de pr車stata al nivel mundial es la cuarta causa de muerte por c芍ncer en los hombres, y su incidencia y mortalidad se han incrementado en los 迆ltimos a os. En Cuba constituye la segunda causa de muerte por c芍ncer, por lo que adquiere importancia el empleo del ultrasonido transrectal para su diagn車stico y estadiaje. El presente estudio analiz車 la eficacia del ultrasonido transrectal en el diagn車stico del c芍ncer prost芍tico, el cual determin車 la frecuencia en nuestro universo, as赤 como los patrones ecogr芍ficos presentes y la sensibilidad y especificidad del m谷todo. Se estudiaron 158 pacientes de forma descriptiva-prospectiva a los cuales se le realiz車 un ultrasonido transrectal y punci車n aspirativa con aguja fina a aquellos con sospecha ecogr芍fica de c芍ncer prost芍tico. El grupo de edad m芍s afectado correspondi車 al de 71 a 80 a os y de la raza negra. La imagen ecogr芍fica m芍s frecuente fue la lesi車n focal hipoecoica en forma de n車dulo o difusa. De los 125 casos sospechosos se diagnostic車 c芍ncer en 110 para una sensibilidad de 0,93 y una especificidad de 0,52. El ultrasonido transrectal contin迆a siendo el medio imagenol車gico de elecci車n para el diagn車stico, una gu赤a importante para la toma de biopsias prost芍ticas y el estadiaje local en el c芍ncer de la pr車stata. At a worldwide level, prostatic cancer is the fourth cause of death from cancer in men, and its incidence and mortality have increased in the last years. In Cuba, it is the 2 nd cause of death from cancer, that's why transrectal US is so important for its diagnosis and staging. The present study analyzed the effectiveness of the transrectal US in the diagnosis of prostatic cancer, which determined the frequency in our universe, as well as the present echogram patterns, and the sensibility and specificity of the method. A descriptive prospective study was conducted among 158 patients, who underwent transrectal US . Fine-needle aspiration puncture was perfomed in those subjects with echographic suspicion of prostatic cancer. The age group 71-80 and the black people were the most affected. The most frequent echogram image was the hypoechoic focal lesion (nodular or diffuse). Of the 125 suspected cases, cancer was diagnosed in 110 of them for a sensibility rate of 0.93, and a specificity rate of 0.52. Transrectal US is still the choice imaging tool for the diagnosis, and an important guide for the taking of prostatic biopsies and for the local staging in prostatic cancer.
