%X This article examines the foundation of diplomatic relations between the newly established Kingdom of Sicily (1734) and the Ottoman Empire along with the first diplomatic exchange between the sides. Launched in 1740, the agreement improved the Ottoman influence in European diplomacy and helped to save the Turk and Muslim captives in Sicilian prisons. Furthermore, the bilateral agreement granted economic, social, and political concessions between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Sicily which allowed the free movement of merchant and warships of the two sides
