Hande DUYMU£¿ FLORIOTI %J History Studies : International Journal of History %D 2012 %I History Studies : International Journal of History %X The Assyrian state became an empire in the Neo-Assyrian Period (ca. 934-609 B.C.). The internal and external diplomatic policy of the Assyrian kings in this period became highly effective in this rise. It is understood that the Assyrian kings implemented a mass deportation policy in the Middle Assyrian Period, which was used more commonly in the Neo-Assyrian Period. The Assyrian kings either deported the peoples of the newly conquered lands or punished them severely.
