%0 Journal Article %T Women¡¯s Teacher Training in the Ottoman Empire during the Westernization Period, c.1839-1920//// Bat l la ma D neminde Osmanl mparatorlu u¡¯nda Kad n retmen Yeti tirme, 1829¨C1920 %A Mustafa £¿anal %J History Studies : International Journal of History %D 2013 %I History Studies : International Journal of History %X Relying on the Ottoman archival documents and state and education registers, this article examines women¡¯s education and the training of female teachers in the Ottoman westernization period (1839-1920). This study concludes that despite serious shortcomings of women¡¯s education and the training of female teachers, gradually female teachers filled up the majority of positions in the girls¡¯ teacher training schools.
