%X El presente art赤culo tiene como objetivo analizar el estado de las evaluaciones genot車xicas aplicadas a las plantas medicinales de amplio consumo en nuestra poblaci車n. Se particulariza qu谷 tipos de ensayos in vitro o in vivo han sido utilizados, los niveles de da o gen谷tico detectados y los resultados obtenidos hasta el momento. Se hacen recomendaciones sobre la necesidad de complementar estos estudios para producir evaluaciones genot車xicas m芍s integrales sobre la base de los ensayos que se realizan en Cuba, dada la ausencia de una regulaci車n internacional para este tipo de evaluaci車n y poder clasificar con argumentos suficientes a las plantas medicinales en genot車xicas o no. Por 迆ltimo, se propone una ruta cr赤tica a seguir en los estudios de gen谷tica toxicol車gica con plantas medicinales en nuestro pa赤s. The present article is aimed at analyzing the state of genotoxic evaluations applied to medicinal plants that are widely consumed by our population. Details are given about the types of in vivo or in vitro assays used, the levels of genetic damage that have been detected, and the results obtained up to now. Recommendations are made on the necessity of complementing these studies to obtain more comprehensive genotoxic evaluations on the basis of the assays carried out in Cuba, due to the absence of an international regulation for this type of evaluation and to classify with sufficient reasons the medicinal plants into genotoxic or not. To conclude, it is proposed a critical route to be followed in the studies of genetics toxicology with medicinal plants in our country.
