%X From 1601 until almost the end of the seventeenth century, the diocese of Yucat¨¢n were immersed in a long litigation by 10 rural curates, which involved both Franciscans and secular clerics. The importance of controlling the numerous indigenous population, meant that an ecclesiastical problem merited the intervention of practically all the social sectors of Yucatan, and of course, the Spanish Crown. It is for this reason that the analysis of this event permits the appreciation of how such diverse elements as royal ecclesiastical politics, the evangelization and the interests of different local groups, can converge. Desde 1601 hasta casi finalizar el siglo XVII, la di¨®cesis de Yucat¨¢n se vio inmersa en un largo litigio por 10 curatos de indios, que involucr¨® a franciscanos y cl¨¦rigos seculares. La importancia de controlar a la numerosa poblaci¨®n ind¨ªgena hizo que un problema entre eclesi¨¢sticos ameritase la intervenci¨®n de pr¨¢cticamente todos los sectores que compon¨ªan la sociedad yucateca y, por supuesto, de la Corona espa ola. Es por eso que su estudio permite apreciar c¨®mo converg¨ªan y se entrelazaban elementos tan diversos como la pol¨ªtica eclesi¨¢stica regia, la cura de almas y los intereses de los distintos grupos locales.
